Eating Out / New Castle

Having opened just three months ago, it’s been a turbulent time for the new head chef, maitre’d and owner of Lincoln’s Castlegate Restaurant… but boy… has it been worth it? Stunning food, a gorgeous dining room and excellent service will soon make the restaurant one of Lincoln’s best fine dining establishments… this month, Rob Davis encourages diners to sample its food quickly, whilst it’s still possible to obtain a table!

Establishing a new restaurant in a city where diners are already familiar with the best places to eat takes real talent, but that’s something the key players of the Castlegate Restaurant in Lincoln’s city centre have in abundance.

Having opened in November last year, the team has successfully created enviable menus, established relationships with suppliers, and have put the finishing touches to the venue’s exceptional decor and front of house operation. Sampling all round impressive talent and superb food, diners in Lincoln will soon find themselves drawn to what can aptly be described as the hottest new restaurant in town.

A former convenience shop, the Castlegate Restaurant, which as its name suggests is situated on Union Road, using the spectacular building’s rear entrance as a backdrop, is part of a trio of venues converted by Jonathan Pass at a cost of £2.5m to create a stunning five star hotel with 14 bedrooms and exceptionally appointed en-suite bathrooms, plus luxurious sophisticated looking lounge, and a cosy real-ale pub in the form of The Victoria.

There’s certainly no doubting Jonathan’s judgement; for a start, he’s chosen Lincoln in which to establish himself, and in addition, each of the venues is located in an ideal position for Lincoln’s key tourist attractions, and are located right next to each other. Also, each features beautiful sophisticated interior design – with furnishings and room schemes chosen by the businessman himself. But easily Jonathan’s best decision was the appointment of the superb trio at the Castlegate which will this year make the venue one of the most popular restaurants in the City.

Head Chef Adam Wesley has phenomenal talent and comes from venues ranging from Michelin starred restaurants to venues with five red stars. He’s reluctant to talk of previous commissions insisting that the Castlegate Restaurant will create unique menus with its own style rather than the adopted style of a previous kitchen, but with an exceptional working relationship with equally talented sous chef Matt Larcomb, the duo is set to shake up Lincoln’s food culture and provide a quality of dining equalling the best restaurants in Lincoln.
