The Big Feature / Best Foot Forward

Festival Programme features icons indicating easy, moderate and energetic rambles, with additional icons indicating suitability for wheelchairs and pushchairs, dogs and the accessibility of pubic transport, toilet and refreshment facilities.
“The event is always popular both with those from Lincolnshire and as a tourist event for those living outside the county.” Says Karen. “Tourism-wise its great for Lincolnshire, and there are plenty of businesses who can promote themselves on the back of the festival. We’ve plenty of walker-friendly accommodation available for those outside the area, and plenty of places to savour local food and drink, take some time out and discover Lincolnshire in the best possible way!”
Kicking off the exciting programme, the Festival’s day-long launch event, held on 17th May at Welton le Wold Quarry will feature a series of short walks of 2-3 miles, and a longer walk of five miles from Louth to Welton, plus entertainment, demonstrations, talks, workshops, opportunities for visitors to try tight-rope walking, globe walking and stilt walking. There will also be mini-beast hunting and face painting for children plus locally produced food & drink… a great way to start the festival!
No matter how inclined (or otherwise!) you are towards exercise, or if you’ve indulged a little over Easter, you’ll definitely find a walk which appeals during the Festival, and with both district and county councils working so hard to promote the Wolds as an understated and unspoilt holiday destination, there really is nothing to stop your rediscovering the Wolds this season.
Many of the festival’s walks are free, though some carry a small charge, please call to confirm before setting off. To order a free programme contact Louth’s Tourist Information Centre on 01507 609289 or see www.woldswalkingfestival.co.uk.
